Olivers Castle Balls Of Light Hoax

The Oliver’s Castle crop circle of 1996 is one of the most infamous cases in crop circle history, largely because of the controversial video showing “balls of light” allegedly creating the formation. The footage became iconic but was later widely debunked as a hoax.

The Event
• Date & Location: The crop circle appeared near Oliver’s Castle, Wiltshire, on the morning of 11 August 1996.
• The Video: A man calling himself John Weyleigh (later linked to John Wabe) showed footage at the Barge Inn in Honeystreet. The video appeared to capture glowing orbs of light swirling above a wheat field, with a crop circle forming in seconds beneath them.
 The Balls of Light Footage
• Spectacle: The video shows several luminous spheres moving in circular patterns above the field, followed by the sudden appearance of a semi complex formation. ( Relatively easy to create)

• Global Impact: It was broadcast worldwide, becoming one of the most famous “evidences” of paranormal crop circle creation.
• Controversy: Researchers quickly questioned its authenticity. Computer experts pointed out signs of video manipulation, including frame slides and digital overlays.

Debunking & Legacy
• Hoax Evidence:
• Video analysis revealed inconsistencies in the movement of the lights compared to the crop circle’s appearance.
• John Wabe, connected to the footage, was later accused of fabricating it using digital effects.
• Believers vs Skeptics: Despite debunking, some enthusiasts still cite the Oliver’s Castle video as symbolic proof of mysterious forces, arguing that even if faked, it reflects genuine eyewitness accounts of orbs seen near crop circles.
• Cultural Resonance: The video cemented Oliver’s Castle as a legendary site in crop circle lore, blending art, hoax, and mystery into one enduring story.
The Oliver’s Castle case is fascinating because it embodies the tension between belief and fabrication. On one hand, it’s a clear hoax; on the other, it captured imaginations worldwide and reinforced the mythos of crop circles as supernatural phenomena.
In this rare video circle maker John Lunberg claims they (circlemakers.org) made the Olivers Castle Hoax

I think there is more to John Wabe ( Wayleigh). Not just a simple video technician but  has a greater involvement in the media world.
Oliver’s Castle – The Phantom Balls of Light
The Oliver’s Castle “balls of light” saga has been beaten to death, dissected from every angle, and dragged across countless forums and articles. I won’t waste days compiling the mountain of evidence — it’s already out there, waiting for anyone curious enough to type a few words into Google. What you’ll find is a chorus of voices, and the majority sing the same refrain: hoax.
But here’s where the shadows deepen. Watch the video closely and ask yourself — does it not reek of orchestration? Would it really shock anyone if the elusive John Wabe, or Weyleigh as he sometimes styled himself, was pulling strings behind the curtain? Imagine him working hand‑in‑glove with the notorious circle makers John Lundberg and Rob Irving. Once you peel back the layers of their backgrounds, the picture sharpens: this trio had the skill, the motive, and the audacity.
The deeper you dig, the clearer it becomes. You don’t need to linger long in the archives or chase every rumor. The trail leads inexorably to one conclusion — Oliver’s Castle was never a miracle of the skies, but a carefully staged illusion. A performance designed to dazzle, deceive, and ultimately collapse under the weight of its own fabrication.

John Wabe admits to making the Oliver's Castle Hoax
This National Geographic footage has become increasingly difficult to locate, but I always knew it was out there — it was only a matter of time before it resurfaced (Sorry a bit grainy) In the video, John Wabe openly admits to creating the Oliver’s Castle “balls of light” crop circle hoax.
Between The Circlemakers (John Lundberg) and John Wabe, the two collaborated from the construction of the formation itself to the production of the fabricated video.
